On Regret Over The Wires, Matthew Ryan employs modern pop production to augment his rootsy, smart singer-songwriter material. Whether on the poetic, literary “The Little Things,” the catchy, chiming of “Caged Bird” or the straight up country of “Nails,” Ryan easily straddles a line between Leonard Cohen and Shawn Mullins. Sure…those may seem like divergent comparisons but one listen to this CD will confirm it. Ryan is a talent to be reckoned with and the evocative Regret Over The Wires is no doubt a stepping-stone to an even brighter future.
